At Sahra Sondaj, health, safety and the environment (HSE) isn’t one department’s job — it’s the job of everyone on site. Since 2000, we have applied the same principles to every well we drill in Türkiye, Tunisia and Morocco.
Policy
Our HSE policy
At Sahra Sondaj, we see the health and safety of our employees, subcontractors, clients and neighbouring communities, the protection of the environment and full legal compliance as our core responsibilities. To this end, we:
- Comply with the health, safety and environmental legislation in force in every country where we operate.
- Identify hazards, assess risks and reduce them to an acceptable level before any work begins.
- Aim for zero accidents — no job is so urgent that it cannot be done safely.
- Give every employee who sees an unsafe situation the authority and the responsibility to stop the work.
- Provide our employees and subcontractors with the training, equipment and personal protective equipment their work requires.
- Protect groundwater, soil and air, and reduce, segregate and dispose of waste in line with regulations.
- Report accidents, near misses and incidents openly, investigate their root causes and learn from them.
- Review our HSE performance regularly and keep improving it.

Safety briefing
Every shift starts by talking through the day’s work and its risks.
Permits & risk assessment
Critical tasks are carried out under a written permit and a task-specific risk assessment.
Personal protective equipment
Hard hats, goggles, gloves, hearing protection and safety boots are standard on site.
Equipment checks
Rigs, lifting gear and pressurised lines are inspected regularly.
Emergency preparedness
Every site has first-aid supplies, fire extinguishers and an emergency plan.
Incident reporting
Every incident, including near misses, is recorded and shared with the team.
Environment
Respect for soil and water.
Finding water is our job — protecting it is our duty.
Protecting groundwater
Casing and cementing keep different aquifers from mixing and prevent contamination.
Drilling fluids & waste
Drilling mud is kept in controlled pits; waste is segregated and disposed of through licensed channels.
Noise & dust
Near homes, we plan working hours and equipment layout to limit noise and dust.
Restoring the site
When the job is done, we clean up and return the site as close as possible to how we found it.
Community
Being a good neighbour.
Every well is also a relationship with the people around it.
Local hiring
We give priority to local people in the regions where we work.
Local sourcing
We buy materials and services from local suppliers wherever possible.
Open communication
We listen to our neighbours’ questions and concerns and respond quickly.
